MEKONG LIVESTOCK RESEARCH: ADVANCING SMALLHOLDER LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION AND HEALTH

There is an excited energy in the town hall in Harpang Village in Luang Prabang this morning. The air in the hall is hot and dry and the room is filled with clouds of dust as children run around, kicking up their feet. It’s a village affair; every generation invited to join. There’re female farmers breast-feeding as they learn whilst male farmers bounce young children on their knee. A female farmer stands up to make a point to the group, handing her three-month child to a male farmer next to her as she stands. She is confident in her opinions and comfortable enough to share them despite her previous exclusion from such conversations. It’s a snapshot of village life; its busy, it’s loud and it’s inclusive.
Mekong MIST names the 2019 winners
BANGKOK, 17 October 2019: The Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office announced travel startup winners from a shortlist of 10 companies from across the Mekong Region, that competed in the Mekong Innovative Startups in Tourism (MIST) competition last week.
MIST was held in Bangkok together with the new Travel Startups Asia Forum, featuring startup stories from successful travel ventures and MIST Alumni.
2019 MIST Winners Announced
BANGKOK, 11 October 2019 – The Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office today announced the winners among the 10 innovative startups from across the Mekong Region, which competed in the Mekong Innovative Startups in Tourism (MIST) competition on 9 October 2019.
This year, MIST was held in Bangkok together with the new Travel Startups Asia Forum, featuring startup stories from successful travel ventures and MIST Alumni. The opening keynote was given by Senator and former Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand HE Mr Weerasak Kowsurat who linked the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship to tourism development in Thailand and the Mekong Region. The closing keynote was given by founder of Nok Airways Mr Patee Sarasin, who gave valuable insights from his experiences in starting an airline in Southeast Asia.

Sofitel Luang Prabang has partnered with acclaimed Food and Beverage consultants Avril Production to launch the latest farm-to-table-dining concept at its dining outlet Governor’s Grill to give guests an opportunity to explore the exotic taste of Laotian produce. The restaurant’s menu has been revamped to include a selection of Lao and western dishes from locally sourced ingredients. Organic vegetables are gathered from nearby farms and feta is supplied by a local buffalo dairy farm, a socially-responsible enterprise which works with villages in the area to produce a range of sustainable buffalo cheeses and other quality dairy products.
